Here is Russel Wright's birdcage lamp for the Fairmont Lamp Company. It was made in the early 1950s and is formed from brass tubing, so it is very light. The lamp shade is not original, but very close to the original's shape and size.

I agree -- this is really a fantastic shape. Russel really had a "design palette" in mind with these Fairmont lamps, and the brass tube plays a major role.

Scott, now I see the relationship between your Fairmont lamp and mine. The brass tubing is a very important detail.
Do you think that these Fairmont lamps are just rare and hard to find, or that they are so simple in design that we do not recognize them? I put them in the rare and hard to find camp.

Yes, I think they are fairly hard to find. There is a continuum, though ... I've seen two other examples like mine -- another in chartreuse and one in coral (very similar to the American Modern color palette, by the way) -- while I've never seen an example like yours beyond archival photos before.
I like the spare form,
I like the spare form, stripped of anything unnecessary.
