great photo.....plus a question

I don't think I've ever seen this much Riverside China all in one photo. Great collection. Also I relized that the sugar and creamer look very similar to my Malibu Modern set. Did Hollydale just copy these or did Eva have her hand in this line too?
I've not seen but a few Malibu Modern pieces. Never any plates, bowls, etc. One coffee pot years ago that was badly damaged so I passed on purchasing it. But the sugar and creamer I see quite often. And usually in the dark red. Jim

Jim, if you get a chance, it

Jim, if you get a chance, it would be great if you could upload a photo of your Malibu Modern cream and sugar in the User Image Gallery. What you are saying is absolutely true and everyone could see what you are talking about. The Malibu Modern cream and sugar may be more flattened, vertically. I wish we could see them side by side like these great comparisons to Loma of Arizona.

I'm not aware of Eva's involvement with Hollydale prior to her Hi-Fi line that was produced by them in 1957. My gut reaction is that I really doubt that she had anything to do with Malibu Modern.

Regarding dates--The Riverside China line was c. 1946-1947. Malibu Modern was introduced in Winter 1948 as new for 1949.

It was not uncommon for potteries to have their salesman come back to the pottery and say--can we do something like this? This is often how heavily inspired patterns and shapes were born.

I think Mike is right in his analysis. It is also very possible that someone that worked at Riverside went on to work at Hyalin. This was the case with Pigeon Forge Pottery which reproduced some of Zeisel Riverside forms when one of the workers from Riverside went home to Tennessee to assist with running that pottery.

Thanks Mike--Riverside is gorgeous! I was lucky enough to buy quite a bit a few years ago when Pat Moore (of the Eva Zeisel Forum) was selling an estate of a woman who lived in Riverside, California in the '40s and bought large amounts of the ware. I spent way too much compared to my income but its worth it!
