Red Wing

Here is another stunning pair of Red Wing Decorator vases by Charles Murphy. The vase on the right is marked M3010 and measures 16.5-inches high. The vase on the left is marked M3011 and measures 17-inches high. Both vases have a beautiful crystalline green glaze.

These vases you've presented
These vases you've presented are really exceptional. I presume they are difficult to find?

I agree with Mike-- these are stunning! Where did you find them?
Rarity
I fell in love with the Decorator line when the Ray Reiss Red Wing books were published. I would not say that they are easy to find, but if you set your mind to it, they are out there. I just focused on collecting them for awhile and I was able to assemble all of pieces within a 3 year period. I bought most of them over the internet (including a few on ebay), a few at pottery shows and I got lucky finding the two compotes out in the wild. The M3017 compote was $18 at a Chicago "junque" shop. The last piece I found was the M3006 in Salt Lake City of all places. The dealer said that the person she had purchased the vase from had moved to SLC from Red Wing, MN. Her father had worked at the factory and that's how she had come to own it. There is also a group of matching ashtrays, with wild shapes and glazes, that go with the Decorator line. But, I cannot bring myself to collect ashtrays.
