Handpainted Cowboy

This cowboy is unlike most Red Wing pottery. It is marked HANDPAINTED and measures 11.25-inches high.

What a great figurine! Fantastic! Is it a Charles Murphy piece?

My best guess...

...is Murphy. But, there is no documentation to support it.

RW Cowboy

Dangit! That wish list just keeps getting longer. Great figurine!

While browsing on ebay yesterday, I noticed there's a RW cowboy & cowgirl pair listed but they're glazed in solid white. I won't be bidding (not crazy about the solid white glaze) but it will be interesting to see what they bring. I wonder if the solid glaze was the norm for these figurines.

White Glaze

Submitted by atomicscott on Wed, 01/02/2008 - 4:36pm.

Their shown with the white glaze in the Red Wing book. And, there is a special marking on the bottom to designate the piece as handpainted. So, it would seem that the white glaze was more readily available and probably less expensive.

I love him.  He looks like he's "Mosey-ing". Is that a word?
