Red Wing

With pattern names like Golden Viking and Northern Lights, it's impossible for me to not think of Scandinavia (okay, Minnesota also). I don't know anything about the creative process behind these patterns but if one squints just right, I think it's possible to draw some parallels to the designs on this handpainted Swedish Dala Horse.

Yowza!
I just love Red Wing dinnerware. Can you imagine the time and energy that went into hand-painting the pattern onto each piece of Northern Lights dinnerware? It was just an amazing achievement.
Minnesotan?
Are you Minnesotan, Modlectic? I lived there for 35+ years, and if there's one thing that you can count on being in Minnesota antique stores it is Red Wing pottery. With as widely available as it was when I began collecting, it is suprising that I never started collecting it!

Minnesotan?
Scott, I have roots in Minnesota through my father's family but I've never lived there -- visited grandparents, aunts, uncles and loads of cousins there plenty of times over the years though. My grandparents were immigrant Swedes and my father was born and raised in central Minnesota. I haven't had an opportunity to browse antique stores in Minnesota but would love to someday.

Go to Red Wing
You certainly should try to visit, Clyde. No surprisingly, the selection of Red Wing pottery in Red Wing MN is top notch ... or at least it was several years ago. I think it could be a very successful trip for any Red Wing collector.
