Charm House teapot cover

This shows the subtle shadings of iridescence of the as well as the indentation at the center of the teapot cover. This slight touch is so masterful--so Eva!

Belly Button Lid

Submitted by atomicscott on Thu, 09/06/2007 - 1:43am.

I take back my earlier comment about the lid looking like the T&C soup tureen lid (although, it still does in profile). It looks more like Eva's Hyalyn belly button plates and bowls. How cool.

Mother Daughter

Submitted by mpratt on Thu, 09/06/2007 - 10:02am.

The mother daughter theme is recurrent throughout Eva's work. I'm wondering if the umbilicus here and in her hyalyn work is a subtle reminder of this relationship.

Design Continuity

Submitted by atomicscott on Wed, 09/12/2007 - 12:55am.

Here are a couple of photos showing Eva's T&C soup tureen lid and a Hyalyn salad plate with her signature belly button detail. I love the unique design vocabulary that Eva used in all of her designs.

I agree

Submitted by youngmoderns on Wed, 09/12/2007 - 1:17pm.

I totally agree with Scott. I think it is truly remarkable the way in which Eva utilized the same or similar forms again and again but also used her eminent skills to keep them fresh and enchanting. What a talent!

Thanks for posting these photos Scott.

Vocabulary

Submitted by mpratt on Fri, 09/14/2007 - 9:28pm.

Artists create their own, why shouldn't designers?

I'm wondering if any other ceramic designers created their own vocabularies? Would you consider Ben Seibel's use of intaglio to be part of his vocabulary?

Mike, you ask "Would you

Submitted by tennebrac on Fri, 09/14/2007 - 11:20pm.

Mike, you ask "Would you consider Ben Seibel's use of intaglio to be part of his vocabulary?"

My answer is: Yes, certainly! Ben Seibel seemed to be very conscious of surface treatments.
