Great whimsey!
This is a phenomenal piece! Not only is it a wonderful shape and great combination of materials, but I love it when a designer decides not to take life too seriously all the time. Great whimsey! Was this from a very extensive line?

It really is a terrific
It really is a terrific item. Perhaps you already know, but for those who don't, this item was designed by LaGardo Tackett and was imported by Schmid Brothers, Inc. This was item K5718. In 1958, these were priced at $4.95 retail and were designed as cookie jars but could "double easily as bar boys--a natural for pretzels, chips, pop corn, etc."
I know of three others: 5717 was an egg shape with a wooden face on the side and handleless. K5716 looked like a whale and had a handle. I think K5716 is the hardest to find. K5715 was more or less a single faced version of K5718.
Tackett patents
If you do a google patents search for "tackett cookie" there are four results - three with this handle and one egg-shaped. I have seen all three handled versions, but not the non-handled one. Also, while it looks fantastic, it doesn't keep cookies fresh for very long (which is not a problem in our house!).

Your job, should you accept it Craig, is to find all four 'barboys' and line them all up in a row. The'd make a great shot--great display, don't you think?
