Aqua Gracetone Orbit was

Submitted by mpratt on Mon, 07/23/2007 - 5:30am.

Aqua Gracetone Orbit was hard-to-find. Maybe now even more difficult. Great photo. Is the vase in the distance also Orbit? And the architectural planter to the right--who was the manufacturer? Very nice, Craig.

The vase etc

Submitted by mccormickstudio on Tue, 07/24/2007 - 12:54am.

The vase is a Frankoma piece marked JF2200. I think it was an early design but was mostly produced in the early 1970's. It has the closest Frankoma glaze to Orbit's aqua that I've seen. I like (and collect!) other Frankoma pieces which have the bubbles or planets motif, pre-orbit. The planter is a Zanesville Stoneware 'Stoneage Modern' spun jardinere.

I love how atmospheric and elegant you have made this table shot--I wish I new how to take such nice photos.... I love those lamps as well.

Following up on Mike's question--is the Zanesville Stoneware planter marked?

Zanesville planter marks

Submitted by mccormickstudio on Wed, 08/08/2007 - 11:01pm.

This one and most of the big ones are not marked - most of the big ones are a light stoneware with a round 1" dimple in the bottom center where there may or may not be a water hole. The glazes I've seen are gloss turquoise, gloss white, gloss tan/gold, matte black and gloss brown. The small ones and tall cylinders are marked with 4-digit numbers such as 4004 (4"dia x 4"tall), 4015 (4" dia x 15" tall), 1008 and so on. Same glazes on the small pots as the large planters, and the proportion of the rings is the same, about 4-5 rings per inch with the tan stoneware showing through.
