Ernest Sohn

This coffee pot on candle-warming stand as well as the accompanying creamer and sugar bowl were are part of an early Ernest Sohn line marketed under the name "Copper and Color." Ernest Sohn founded his own firm in 1951 and it debuted publicly with an opening party in June of that year. The Copper and Color line was introduced mid-year 1952. The pieces featured black iron (or painted steel) frames and stands and also had copper covers or lids. The nobs are black painted wood. The ceramic was apparently offered in a number of colors although I have only discovered white examples outside of period trade features and advertisements. The coffee pot and stand seems to have been quite popular, it shows up every so often on eBay. These items were unmarked outside of the foil label that you can see on the coffee pot.

Great info.
Over the years, I've seen a lot of these coffee pots. They had to be a big success. Nice to finally know the name and this is the first one I can recall with the stand, cream, sugar, and label. Very nice!
Fantastic set. Sohn's work
Fantastic set. Sohn's work is worthy of more research and attention.
It is a fun set...
I do like the Copper and Color pieces and especially the coffee set. I find the design quite striking--it seems somewhat masculine and confident--not at all subtle or retiring.
