Don Reitz in Clarkdale, Arizona

Hi all,

Today I drove to Clarkdale, Az, to visit Don Reitz, one of the great American Master Potters.  He worked with  Voulkos, Rudy Autio, et al and graduated from Alfred University in New York, where he also taught in 1961 and 1962.  Don has won most of the major awards for pottery/ceramics and is in some incredible museums and collections all over the world.

What a gentleman!  He let me scrounge around through his studio and showed me all his various kilns.  The photo above shows some of the larger pieces, and the one that's second to the right was a collaboration with Peter Voulkos, which was completed the day before Voulkos died.

At 76, he's still working daily with huge pots, mostly ash glazed... he calls it "painting with fire".. truly amazing!
