Sgraffito Plate with Abstract Linear Design

This is one of my favorite Century House pieces. The abstract linear design is incised into the glaze to reveal the clay body color. Small dots of colored glaze accent the design. The plate measures 10-inches around and is marked with an incised "century house, madison, wis., by jane s. rowella, 1949" on the bottom. This is something I'd hang on a wall in a heart beat. Absolutely fabulous.

What a gorgeous piece! It in a way reminds me of the work Jane and Gordon Martz did a few years later.

is that it is a one-of-a-kind piece. One-of-a-kind and customized designs were a Century House specialty.
