Gilley teapot

This teapot has the same electric warming stand that is found with the coffee pots. The brass plated handle is cane wrapped. There are two triangles of ceramic that extend from the body of the pot with a hole near the corner in which the metal fittings are attached. This is very similar to the way the metal handle is attached to Ben Seibel's coffee samovar in the Country-Time line.

Great Piece!

Submitted by scottlindberg on Wed, 07/25/2007 - 12:02pm.

What a great piece! The combination of materials -- white ceramic with brass and cane -- is fantastic, and very representative of the work Seibel was doing through this period of his career. Nice!

Do you see jealousy written

Submitted by mpratt on Wed, 07/25/2007 - 4:02pm.

Do you see jealousy written all over my face? I am absolutely mad for Ben Seibel's Town House China. Later, I want to try to articulate exactly what it is that I find so compelling.

What I like about Town House China

Submitted by mpratt on Thu, 07/26/2007 - 8:31am.

You can look at Town House China and know that it is American production. There's something about the ceramic body and design that just screams home sweet home.

There is a masculinity to this line--it isn't dainty or recherche. The use of wood, metal, cord, and ceramic is well-balanced, eye-catching, and innovative. The designs are functional and honest. They don't hide screws, but make them a design element. Cane and ebony serve as dramatic counterpoints to brass and china.

Even the elegant and safe transfer of items was considered. What a terrific bevy of sturdy trays! You can even envision a guy carrying these trays and not feeling awkward or a housewife being the perfect hostess with Town House China served in a carrier tray.

Thanks for the compliments

I do love the teapot in this line. I don't think it was a bestseller though since I don't recall seeing another come across eBay in the past few years. I was very happy to get it!
